SAVANNAH, GA. (March 12, 2014): A Savannah man has been charged with three crimes after forcing his way into a day care center and taking his infant daughter without permission.
McCoy Roberts III, 21, has been charged with kidnapping, terroristic threats and acts and simple battery after entering the day care center on the 800 block of Bowdon Street and forcefully taking his one-year-old daughter Malaysia.
He was arrested by Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police and the baby recovered without incident or injury about three hours later in a house on the 1000 block of Elliott Street. An Islands Precinct Crime Suppression Unit officer, acting on a tip, spotted the child through the window of the house and called in reinforcements.
Roberts, who is homeless and has no rights to the child, forced his way into the day care center, assaulted an employee and took the child by force. Center staff members followed him on foot and called police before losing him.
