SAVANNAH, GA (October 1, 2014): The Major Accident Investigation Team for Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police is investigating a three-vehicle-wreck that claimed the life of a Savannah man Tuesday afternoon.
Just after 2 p.m. on Sept. 30, 43-year-old Alvin Martin was driving northbound on Interstate 516 in a Lincoln Town Car. Laura Ramos, 33, of Port Wentworth also was headed north on I-516 toward Garden City in a Jeep Wrangler. Martin and Ramos were stopped in traffic in the left lane. Bryant Williford, 21, or Clyo, was driving north in the left lane of I-516 in a Toyota Tundra, when he crossed an overpass and failed to fully stop before crashing into the rear of Martin’s vehicle.
The impact shoved Martin’s vehicle into the rear of Ramos’ vehicle, causing it to spin. This caused both Williford’s and Martin’s vehicles to collide with the median guardrail.
Martin died at the scene. No additional injuries were reported.
This is an ongoing MAIT investigation.
