SAVANNAH, GA (February 18, 2015): Test gunshots will be fired inside buildings at two locations tonight to test expansions of the ShotSpotter system.
The tests will begin at 11 p.m. Officers of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, Savannah College of Art and Design Security and technicians from ShotSpotter will be on hand. The first test will be in the area of Abercorn and York streets. Then they will take place in the area of Bull and 37th streets.
While the shots will be fired inside the building, they may be audible to those outside. There will be no danger to the public.
ShotSpotter is being installed in areas around Savannah in a joint effort by the city and SCAD. It uses a series of sound sensors to detect gunshots and immediately advise on where they are fired.
