SAVANNAH, GA (March 17, 2017) – Officers with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department started their operations for the Saint Patrick’s Day Festival yesterday afternoon, Mar. 16.
“We had a successful first day. Everyone stayed safe and enjoyed themselves,” said incident commander Major Robert Gavin. “As we gear up for the rest of the weekend, it’s important that everyone knows where to get the information they need. Before you come downtown, review the information we’ve made available on our website.” Road closures and parade and wristband information are available at scmpd.org/stpats.
“We want to keep our residents, guests, and streets safe this weekend,” said Maj. Gavin. “The public can help us with this; it’s a shared responsibility. If you see something, say something.” If festival goers see something out of place or that makes them uneasy, they should tell the nearest officer.
“Our officers did great tonight,” Special Events Coordinator Sergeant Eddie Grant said. “We’re looking forward to the rest of the weekend.”
