SAVANNAH, GA (August 15, 2011): A scrap with an ex-girlfriend landed a Savannah man in jail Saturday after she took his car and provoked a fight, drawing the attention of police.
James Davis Williams Jr., 21, of the 700 block of East 32nd Street, was arrested near Eisenhower Drive and Waters Avenue after 9 p.m. when police responded to a possible robbery in progress in the parking lot of a convenience store.
Williams was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, and possession of a firearm in the commission of a crime after he refused police commands to raise both hands.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police determined that a former girlfriend of Williams saw him near the intersection and took his Honda Civic, driving it to a nearby parking lot where Williams and the woman began to fight. Occupants of two other vehicles parked near the Honda were on scene when police arrived and ordered everyone to raise their hands and exit the vehicle.
Williams raised one hand, but seemed to be hiding something with the other. Police also detected a strong odor of marijuana from the vehicle. A search yielded marijuana packaged in six plastic baggies, a semiautomatic pistol, a kitchen knife and more than $1,250 in cash.
