SAVANNAH, GA (November 11, 2011): A 62-year-old Savannah man was killed this morning when his speeding car crashed into a utility pole at White Bluff Road and Lee Boulevard.
Joe Nathan Rhames of Kenmore Drive died at the scene of the 1:19 a.m. wreck.
All four lanes of White Bluff Road and the end of Lee Boulevard were closed to traffic past 10 a.m. today as Bell South repair crews replaced the pole and wiring.
Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) officers said the 1993 Toyota Corolla was travelling north on White Bluff at a high rate of speed when the driver attempted to change lanes in front of a vehicle and lost control. The car slid sideways into the pole.
The investigation is continuing.
