SAVANNAH, GA (April 30, 2015) – As Chief Joseph H. Lumpkin, Sr. nears his six-month anniversary (i.e. May 10th) with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department he has made some personnel moves at the top of the organization and realigned some of the divisions.
Effective Sunday, May 3, the Patrol Division North and Patrol Division South will be combined as one division: the Patrol Division. Major Larry Branson will be transferred from the Investigations Division to command the Patrol Division.
Also effective Sunday, May 3, Major Richard Zapal will be transferred from the Patrol Division North to the Investigations Division.
Furthermore, effective May 3, Major James Barnwell will be transferred from the Patrol Division South to the Special Operations Division. Additionally a number of administrative management functions will be added to the Special Operations Division.
Chief Lumpkin realigned these divisions in order to enhance the department’s outcomes and improve public safety. “Each one of these commanders has demonstrated great leadership during their careers with the SCMPD and this reorganization capitalizes on their individual strengths and talents,” Lumpkin said.
