SAVANNAH, GA (June 9, 2012) A Savannah woman was listed in serious condition Friday night after driving a Dodge Charger into the path of a Chatham Area Transit bus.
Raven Latrell George, 33, of a Marian Court address in Savannah was non-responsive when Savannah firefighters removed her from the wreckage at West 37th and Barnard streets about 6:40 p.m. Four others also were transported for treatment.
The maroon Dodge she was driving east on 37th was struck broadside by the northbound bus. The force of the collision carried the Dodge sideways across 37th Street, causing it to also strike a black Mazda 3 driven by Kimberly Ann Cabrera, 41, of Charleston, SC., that was southbound on Barnard.
The drivers of both cars, and the driver of the bus, Cheryl W. David, 46, of a Northeast 36th Street address, were transported to Memorial University Medical Center. George was listed in serious condition. The other two drivers were listed as stable. Two of the passengers on the bus also were transported to hospitals complaining of injuries.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan police were forced to close 37th Street between Whitaker and Jefferson streets and close Barnard Street between West 38th and 36th streets until after 10 p.m.
SCMPD’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) continues to investigate the collision.
