SAVANNAH, GA (April 19, 2013): A 63-year-old Savannah man was in serious but stable condition after stepping into the path of an automobile Thursday night.

Steven Weiss of a Middleground Road address was transported to Memorial University Medical Center after the 9 p.m. incident on Middleground and Tibet Avenue.

He was struck by a red 2002 Buick LeSabre driven by Cheri Rembert, 24, of a Shawnee Street address.

Major Accient Investigation Team (MAIT) officers from Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department found she was driving southbound in the right lane of Middleground when she saw Weiss standing on the centerline. She applied her brakes to avoid him, but he stepped into her lane of traffic.

MAIT is continuing to investigate.
