SAVANNAH, GA (October 8, 2015): Kevin Jerome Paul, Jr., 23, was arrested by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday afternoon after being caught behind the wheel of a pick-up truck reported stolen from an auto dealership on the 7000 block of Abercorn Street hours earlier.
At about 12:40 p.m. the dealership reported that a green GMC Sierra was stolen from the lot by a man posing as a customer. A bystander observed these events and pursued the stolen Sierra on northbound Abercorn Street.
Just before Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police were dispatched to this incident, a nearby officer observed the bystander pursuing the Sierra and advised other Metro units in the area. As a precautionary measure, the officer stopped bystander’s vehicle. The bystander advised the officer of the theft, just as the incident was dispatched. SCMPD immediately launched a search for the stolen Sierra that had continued west on 71st Street from Abercorn.
At about 2 p.m. Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies located Paul in Rincon with the stolen vehicle in his possession. Paul attempted to flee, but was taken into custody near I-95 and Jimmy Deloach Parkway by ECSO deputies.
ECSO charged Paul with fleeing to elude. Paul is being held in the Effingham County Jail awaiting extradition to Chatham County where he is wanted for auto theft.
