SAVANNAH, GA (November 10, 2015): Monday, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) arrested Darcia Wilson, 50, for the January hit and run death of 72-year-old Peter Meyer of Vero Beach, FL.

Monday afternoon, Wilson confessed to the fatal accident at SCMPD’s Traffic Office. Four days prior, MAIT interviewed her at her Jacksonville, FL residence. With assistance from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, search warrants were served for Wilson’s red 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe. Evidence linking the vehicle to the accident was recovered and is being further analyzed at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab. Investigators contacted Wilson after receiving a CrimeStoppers tip.

On Jan. 4, at about 10:30 p.m., Meyer  was found on the ground in front of a hotel on the 5700 block of Abercorn Street. Investigators believe Meyer was walking across Abercorn Street when he was struck and thrown into shrubbery during or after an early evening rainstorm.

Wilson is charged with one count of felony leaving the scene of an accident with an injury or death. She was arrested without incident and transported to the Chatham County Detention Center.
