SAVANNAH, GA (August 25, 2014) – The SCMPD Island’s Precinct officers nabbed a man and charged him with breaking into cars in the Daffin Heights neighborhood near LaRoach Avenue and Skidaway Road.
On Saturday a vigilant neighbor called 911 about a suspicious person who was looking inside cars parked along the street and in driveways.
Officers Brady Schwandt and Austin Foraker made contact with the suspect, identified as Austin Thompson, 24. The officers searched Thompson and found a debit card, two cell phones, a phone charger, wrist watch, flashlight and a small amount of marijuana.
One of the phones and the debit card was returned to the owners. The items were left in their unlocked cars.
Thompson was charged with 3 counts of Entering Auto, Possession of Marijuana less than an ounce, Possession of Tools for Commission of Crime, and Loitering/Prowling.
Islands Precinct Lt. Lenny Gunther said, “This is a good example of how we can make an arrest when citizens get involved, even anonymously, and report suspicious activity.”
SCMPD encourages everyone to lock their cars and hide all valuables left inside.
