SAVANNAH, GA. (May 5, 2014): Three men and a woman were arrested Thursday when detectives from Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department’s Central Precinct culminated a five-week investigation into illegal drug sales and searched two houses on the 100 block of West 33rd Street.
The search yielded various amounts of drugs and cash and led to the arrests of:
• Adrian Gardner, 32, two counts of sale of controlled substance and violation of parole.
• Manny Engram, 26, two counts of sale of controlled substance and violation of parole.
• William Floyd, 61, two counts of sale of controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
• Diane Parris, 41, two counts of sale of controlled substances and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
The Tactical Investigations Unit (TIU) of the Central Precinct had been investigating illegal sales in the area for more than five weeks after residents complained about the sales and other crimes related to them.
“While this investigation focused on these two houses, the arrests were significant because they strike at the heart of the type of crimes that are permeating some of our neighborhoods and leading to other crimes that combine to erode the neighborhood,” said Police Chief Julie Tolbert. “These operations take an enormous amount of time and effort but they are so important to keeping the public safe.”
Capt. DeVonn Adams, commander of the Central Precinct, praised the work of his detectives and the units that helped conduct the operation last week as well as the encouragement of the neighbors in the area who helped initiate the actions.
“This is the sixth operation led by the Central TIU in this area in the past year and that has significantly decreased crime and increased the public’s willingness to come forward and help law enforcement clean up the area,” he said. “We still have a long way to go but we are committed to a goal of moving criminal activities away from these neighborhoods.”
TIU was joined by the Central Precinct Crime Suppression Unit, Metro’s SWAT Team and officers from the Savannah Probation Office.
TIU detectives continue to investigate the sales and additional arrests could be forthcoming.
