SAVANNAH, GA (July 31, 2012) One driver was apprehended and another is being sought after two women were struck by cars that failed to stop.
Courtney Goldwire, 20, of a Paulsen Street address was released from Memorial University Medical Center Monday after she was struck by a car at East Broad and East Bolton Streets last Thursday.
She was walking with two other women about 4:30 p.m. when a white Chevrolet Cobalt with two men inside turned wide and struck her.
Major Accident Investigation Team officers from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are investigating the incident and seeking the driver of the Cobalt.
A second driver was not as evasive Sunday morning and his victim was more seriously injured.
Mildred Cooper, 22, of a West 36th Street address was crossing West Bay Street outside of the pedestrian crosswalk near MLK Boulevard about 3 a.m. when she was struck by a black Chevrolet Impala. She was transported to Memorial with serious injuries.
A nearby Downtown Precinct patrol officer saw the Impala speed away from the scene and stopped it. Charges are pending the outcome of the MAIT investigation.
