SAVANNAH, GA (August 29, 2011): Two Savannah men and a 17-year-old girl received non-life threatening wounds when someone opened fire on them at a Skidaway Road Laundromat Tuesday morning.
Desmond Sutton, 26, Garnell Quarterman, 19, and Javon Cholz were shot in their car as they left the Speed Queen Laundromat at Skidaway and Sunset Boulevard about 12:20 a.m. The two men ran north on Skidaway several doors to an Enmark station seeking help.
Cholz, shot in her lower leg, crawled into the laundromat where police found her receiving aid from a bystander. All were transported to Memorial University Medical Center for treatment.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police closed off several blocks of Skidaway Road and set up a crime scene to allow forensics officers to investigate the shootings.
The investigation showed the three victims had driven to the laundromat where Quarterman had put clothes in a washing machine and returned to the car which was leaving when the gunfire began. The car was hit multiple times.
The shootings took place within blocks of two other shootings that occurred simultaneously at 3:06 p.m. Monday: Christopher Washington, 19, reported he was walking near Sunset Park on Sunset Boulevard just east of the shootings when several males walked out of the park and one fired at him, striking him in the foot. In the 1900 block of East 50th Street, a block to the west of today’s shooting, Jerome Johnson, 29, was found on the porch of his residence with a gunshot wound. Both received non-life threatening wounds, although Johnson’s was considered more serious.
Sgt. Robert Gavin, supervisor of the SCMPD Violent Crimes Division, said investigations into all three of the shootings continue and detectives are trying to determine if any connection exists between them.
