SAVANNAH, GA (January 11, 2015) Major Accident Investigation Team officers of the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are investigating two single-vehicle accidents that left one man dead and another in critical condition this weekend.
Jacob Thomas Barcroft, 33, of Savannah, was declared dead at the scene about 11 p.m. Saturday when he lost control of his 2010 Harley Davidson motorcycle in front of K-Mart on Montgomery Cross Road.
He had been riding westbound towards Abercorn Street, driving recklessly and at an excessive speed, when the motorcycle struck the curb in the median. He and the motorcycle then struck a tree in the median after he was ejected.
Samuel Coolidge, 31, of Sacramento, CA, was transported to Memorial where he was admitted in critical condition just before midnight Friday after a crash on Quacco Road.
He had been driving south on Quacco in a 1996 BMW when he lost control of the vehicle after he crossed over the Interstate 95 overpass. The BMW traveled off the west side of the roadway into the wood line, striking several trees and coming to rest on its roof. He was extracted by Southside Fire and Emergency Services.
MAIT officers continue to investigate both incidents.
